We Give Back

In 2016, Big Bad Con officially became a 501(c)(3) charity. And we’ve got big plans. Not only are we offering quality games at the con each October, we are developing a community outreach program to bring games to young players all year round.

Proceeds from the con and its exhibitors support the following organizations:

Doctors Without Borders Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization working in nearly 70 countries to assist people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe. In 1999, MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Here’s how much we’ve raised in the past:

Food Bank of Contra Costa Country and Solano
Attendees can drop off non-perishable foods at the registration desk for the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano. The Food Bank distributes food directly to people in need through several programs and provides food to more than 190,000 people every month. If you’re heading to Big Bad Con please bring non-perishable food to donate. Here’s their shopping list of most needed items.

Here’s how much we’ve raised in the past:

  • 2017: 480 lbs
  • 2016: 375 lbs

In previous years when the convention took place in Oakland, we gave to the Alameda County Community Food Bank instead:

  • 2015: 406 lbs
  • 2014: 485 lbs
  • 2013: 252 lbs
  • 2012: 480 lbs
  • 2011: 230 lbs

Child’s Play is dedicated to improving the lives of children in hospitals around the world through the kindness and generosity of the video game community and the power of play.

Child’s Play is always striving to pursue new opportunities and expand the positive impact of the cause. This includes consistently researching and pursuing alternate fundraising channels, new donation platforms, additional events and better community support.
You come to the con to play great games, but in addition, you make great things happen. And who says we can’t be heroes?

Some of the non gamer people in my life don’t entirely get BBC but once I tell them that some of the profits are going to charities they immediately like it. And, for myself, I get to game and help some people at the same time. Sounds like a win/win to me.
