I always wanted Big Bad Con to be about having great games for awesome gamers, but there is a wrinkle there. Putting on all those games, in one place, costs a hefty chunk of change. Which of course, is why attendees have to pay for admission and why I ask everyone to rent a room at the hotel if they can, it all goes towards meeting the bottom line.
But what if we get more money that it takes to run the con? Luckily, there is something almost as awesome as gaming that I can do with that money, and that is give it to charity.
Proceeds from the convention will go to Doctors Without Borders. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization working in nearly 70 countries to assist people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe. In 1999, MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize.
So, if you pay to attend Big Bad Con, you get to game AND help people in need. You are an action hero! How much we’ve raised in the past:
The Woodsman is going to round up a barrel to fill with non-perishable foods for the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano. The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano distributes food directly to people in need through several programs and provides food to more than 190,000 people every month.
Not only will you feel good knowing that your old can of bean is feeding someone who needs it, but the The Wolf is also giving out “Feed The Wolf” achievement pins to anyone who donates! So grab a can of food and bring it our way.
Child’s Play is dedicated to improving the lives of children in hospitals around the world through the kindness and generosity of the video game community and the power of play.
Child’s Play is always striving to pursue new opportunities and expand the positive impact of the cause. This includes consistently researching and pursuing alternate fundraising channels, new donation platforms, additional events and better community support.
EndGame, Big Bad Con’s official dealer, donates 10% of the sales made at Big Bad Con to Child’s Play.
You come to the con to play great games, but in addition, you make great things happen. And who says we can’t be heroes?
