Have you ever tried to play a new game and been overwhelmed by how frustratingly steep the learning curve was? Are you getting lost when trying to navigate a new rule book--unsure of where everything is in relation to the table of contents? Or perhaps, like so many parties, your players or your storyteller just continue to misunderstand the rules?

Well, there is a reason for that.

While creating a game is already hard, it's not enough to create a massive and intricate ruleset with tons of options and flexibility galore! You also have to consider the needs of the people who will be playing the game--the users. Let's look at the TTRPG through the lens of Human-Centered Design and dissect what can make or break the experience for players and storytellers.
